Using a customized pipeline designed for the complexity of these shots, which was completed in a record three month period. Presiding over the team is Founder and Sr. VFX Supervisor of Pixelloid Studios, Yugandhar Tammareddy and Nayeem Akhtar, VFX Producer & Supervisor at Pixelloid.

Julai is a 2012 Telugu action comedy film written and directed by Trivikram Srinivas. The film stars Allu Arjun, Ileana D’Cruz and Rajendra Prasad in lead roles. The film was produced by S. Radha Krishna under Haarika & Hassine Creations Banner and was presented by D.V.V. Danayya.

Yugandhar is an award winning VFX Supervisor and Entrepreneur. His 14 years of experience and work in over 100 films have earned him a niche in the industry.

Talking to Animationxpress.com, Yugandhar Tammareddy, Founder and Sr. VFX Supervisor, Pixelloid Studios shares,” We have worked on many films directed by Trivikram. Having the confidence in us, we were approached for the film Julai.”

Initially there were 3 major VFX sequences in the film, the bank robbery scene, chase sequence and the climax BG replacement shots. Personally, the chase sequence which was a major action sequence in the film was a challenging work to shoot because they used  big ramps, thick metal wires, iron rods to make the cars rotate and tumble which made it quite challenge to erase it. The director wanted the chase sequence to be shot in the city on the flyover , so for that we had to create CG buildings, CG cars on the road and the depth at the road below, so that we can get the feel as it is happening on the flyover.”

“We shot the plates of the flyover in the city and we composed it finally by using many matte paints. Among of all interesting part was to create a huge CG building beside the flyover were the whole action part starts when the car goes inside the building which was complicated yet interesting. We have used Maya for the most of it, for lighting we used V-ray.  Blast code combining with Maya particle system for the Glass breaking. For the
CG glass it took us almost 25 versions to get the feel of realism.”

One more noted shot in the movie is the car sequence entering into the building, where the initial idea was just making a CG building by using the live car plate for which cranes were used to do the stunt, but the car plates ended up not having natural feel of flight, so, a CG car had be created. There were around 10 shots totally made in CG which includes dynamic simulations like dust, derbies, and glass pieces. Metal contact sparks, smoke and a car rig for getting natural feel of motion.

“My experience working on Julai was great. With Director Trivikram I enjoyed lot of creative freedom. Apart from Director’s inputs I had a chance to experiment both technically and creatively. The whole team at Pixelloid has worked hard on this venture , I would like to thank Pawar Arun, Muneshwar,  Ramarao, Ajay Tangudu, Anil, SrinivasRaju, Kartheek, Sivaprasad, Manidhar, Naresh, Somesh.
