The newest addition of Wacom Intuos5 was launched in India on the 16th March 2012, at Grand Hyatt in Mumbai.Wacom’s next generation lineup of tablets-Intuos5 is a boon for creative professionals as well as photo, art, and design enthusiasts who wish to take their digital content creation to the next level. Its superior new features include multi-touch gesture support for intuitive input, an Express View display to facilitate an efficient workflow and wireless capabilities for convenience and comfort.
The first thing you’ll notice about the Intuos5 is that it’s much more tactile than its predecessors. This is because of its new surface technology which makes it a bit warmer and softer around the edges. And those edges have been extended around the drawing area, making it easier to get right into the corners of your work without coming up against the end of the graphics tablet.
Intuos5 has multi-touch gestures in OS X and Windows using five fingers (like zooming in and out, rotate, pan, or navigate through apps) which is a great addition, all while still being able to use the pressure-sensitive pen. The Intuos 5 actually differentiates between accidental touching and actual user actions. With the Intuos 5 you can actually ditch your mouse or trackpad completely.
The Intuos 5 retains the same fine sensitivity as the Intuos 4: 2048 levels of pressure, requiring only 1 gram of pressure to start painting. The old style was the built-in LCD displays, replaced with an onscreen HUD that appears when you smoothly put your fingers over the capacitative buttons. It actually makes more sense to summon the HUD on command without having to take your eyes off the screen rather that looking down to the tablet.
The tablet frame is rubberized and, while the actual drawing area remains the same, the surface has been extended. The Intuos5 also adheres to wireless connectivity; this optional function can enable one to convert Intuos5 into a wireless tablet by installing the Wireless Accessory kit that is sold separately. This kit is inclusive of rechargeable battery that charges through USB, a RF module that plugs into the tablet and a receiver that plugs into a USB port on the computer.
shigeki Komiyama, Director and Executive Director, Japan-Asia Pacific Region at Wacom Co. Ltd strongly believes that touch and pen could replace mouse and keyboard in future. He clearly points out the success of Samsung’s Galaxy Note. With touch functionality being adopted in all fields, the multi-touch capabilities of the Intuos5 support gestures, like zooming, scrolling, panning and rotating the image. It offers compatibility with Windows and Macs. He maintains that the tablet is for professional artists and look forward to further tie-ups with art institutions in India.
The company introduced five models of Intuos5 Touch small priced at Rs.17,200, medium priced at Rs.25,100, large at Rs.32,350, and also pen-only Small for Rs.15,200 and medium for Rs.21,500.connect@animationxpress.com
