Esports organisation Skyesports announced The Finals League, a city-vs-city esports tournament featuring the country’s top gamers. The league will take place in September, with 10 Indian cities represented by renowned creators and professional players competing for the title and a share of the Rs. 8.4 lakhs ($10,000) prize pool.
Based on the popular video game The Finals, the league will kick off with a player auction. In this, the 10 captains of the different cities will bid to select the top gamers for their respective teams. After that, the Group Stage will begin, leading up to the two-day Playoffs.
The 10 cities are as follows:
- Mumbai Moonlanders
- Rajasthan Galactics
- Delhi Celestials
- Bengaluru Starbusters
- Hyderabad Halos
- Chennai Comets: Vaadhiyaar
- Punjab Asteroids
- Ahmedabad Meteors
- Kolkata Zeniths
- Pune Supernovas: Ghatak
The participants of this year’s league include Binks, Sentinel, Ghatak, Scout, Sikh Warrior, Vaadhi, and others. Each team will consist of six players, headlined by a captain. The tournament aims to not only provide fans with exciting esports action but also give them a team to root for based on their city. The unique range of cities, covering major Indian metros, aims to ensure regional penetration as the video game continues to cement itself as a leading FPS title in India.
The league will be played in the exciting Cash Out mode where four teams will drop into the battlefield to battle it out. In the end, the team with the most cash will achieve victory. The Cash Out mode is a unique The Finals-only mode where 12 players, split into four teams of three each compete to get the most cash within the eight-minute mark by securing Cashout Stations and taking out enemies.
All the action will be livestreamed on The Finals India and Skyesports YouTube channels.
Skyesports founder and CEO Shiva Nandy said, “After hosting a creators-only Lan, an open-for-all community cup, cafe, and collegiate events across India, it’s now time for the city-vs-city The Finals League, where players can root not only for their favourite gamers but also their local cities and states.”
India currently has about 450 million gamers, a number projected to grow to more than 730 million by 2028, at a five-year CAGR of 10 per cent, per Niko Partners. Additionally, the video game revenue is set to surpass US$1.4 billion by 2028, up from US$943 million in 2024.
