Snow White live-action remake gets a new teaser trailer

Disney has dropped a teaser trailer and a new poster for the live action remake of its 1937 classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, with the remake being titled Snow White.

The synopsis of the original 2D animated film reads: The beautiful and kindhearted princess Snow White charms every creature in the kingdom except one — her jealous stepmother, the Queen. When the Magic Mirror proclaims Snow White is the fairest one of all, she must flee into the forest, where she befriends the lovable seven dwarfs — Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. But when the Queen tricks Snow White with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love’s kiss can save her!

Disney revealed the teaser trailer at D23 Expo, its fan event comprising numerous reveals of future projects from the company, held at the Anaheim Convention Center and Honda Center in Anaheim, California. The film’s lead cast Rachel Zegler (Snow White) and Gal Gadot (Evil Queen) were present at the expo. The event revealed a first look at the Whistle While You Work scene which features various animals assisting Snow White in her chores while humming and dancing to the titular song by late American musician Andriana Caselotti.

The original Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was the first full length feature animated film by Disney in the USA. The film started production in 1934 and finally released three years later. The film was completely hand drawn with over 750 artists who completed over two million sketches to bring their vision to life. Over 25 songs were written for the movie, but only eight of them made the cut. It was also the first movie to release a soundtrack for purchase. Critics were convinced that the film would fail and called it “Walt Disney’s Folly,” but the film was a commercial and critical success, which ended up receiving an Academy Award in 1939.

The live-action musical adventure journeys back to the classic story with beloved characters Bashful, Doc, Dopey, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, and Sneezy. Snow White is directed by Marc Webb (The Amazing Spider-Man, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and produced by Marc Platt and Jared LeBoff, with Callum McDougall as executive producer. The film features original songs from the US-based songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, popularly known by the name “Pasek and Paul.”

The Zegler and Gadot starrer is Disney’s latest attempt into converting iconic animated films into live action and CGI format, after live-action films like The Lion King, The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo, Aladdin, Mulan and The Little Mermaid received mixed critical reception.
Snow White opens in theatres in March 2025.
