Recent job openings from Nintendo may indicate that the absence of Nintendo Direct presentations may end soon.
If there’s one constant for Nintendo fans, it’s that you can never predict when exactly a Nintendo Direct presentation will be announced. Rumors of a Nintendo Direct in 2021 are already circulating among Nintendo fans, with Nintendo as quiet as ever about an official announcement of an upcoming presentation.
A recent job listing for Associate AV Producer mentions that applicants should expect to “assist with filming live-action footage for use in Nintendo Directs, and other content marketing initiatives.”
Audiovisual specialists naturally excel in a number of different fields that encompass different forms of marketing, as the vacancy even indicates. Still, it’s a good sign that the feature description takes specific account of future Nintendo Direct presentations, showing that Nintendo still sees Directs worth producing.
Certainly at a time when many people and employees have to work remotely, Nintendo Direct presentations are undoubtedly more difficult to produce. Still, Nintendo has managed to deliver smaller, more focused Direct presentations with consistently high quality in recent months. The most recent Direct, which focused on Japan’s Super Nintendo World theme park, is a prime example of this, although Japan has handled the ongoing pandemic much more leniently than the US. Still, even Nintendo’s Indie World Showcases and Direct Minis ran fairly smoothly during the pandemic.
Unfortunately, this is all the listing divulges, and while it’s easy to look too much into this and think this must mean a new Nintendo Direct is on the horizon, it doesn’t mean that at all. That said, what it does confirm is that Nintendo hasn’t forgotten about Nintendo Directs and still plans to return to the show format in the future.
Right now, Nintendo has a lot of big Nintendo Switch games we haven’t heard about in a while, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, Bayonetta 3, and Metroid Prime 4.It also hasn’t announced many games in the past 12 months, which means it should also have plenty of unannounced games it will soon be ready to show off.
