Malaysia Digital Content Festival (MYDCF) Biz Day 2024: Gateway to the global digital creative scene

As the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) continues to lead Malaysia’s digital transformation, the Malaysia Digital Content Festival (MYDCF) Biz Day is back with its flagship event—Kre8tif! 2024.

Positioned as Southeast Asia’s gateway to the global digital content scene, MYDCF Biz Day 2024 promises an unparalleled platform for growth, collaboration, and innovation across the animation, gaming, and digital creative industries. From 1 to 3 October 2024, MYDCF Biz Day will be held at Connexion Conference & Event
Centre (CCEC), Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur.

This year’s event will feature a diverse range of speakers, exhibitors, and programmes that highlight Malaysia’s growing influence in the global digital landscape. Kre8tif! not only celebrates the country’s thriving digital content ecosystem but also positions Malaysia as a gateway in the Southeast Asian market, creating potential business opportunities for the global market.

Kre8tif!, Southeast Asia’s premier conference and business exchange dedicated to the creative industry. Kre8tif! has evolved into a crucial hub for animation professionals and digital content creators, attracting industry leaders from both regional and international markets. The event continues to reinforce Malaysia’s status as a powerhouse in digital content creation, with sessions that delve into industry trends, market shifts, and emerging opportunities.

One of the most anticipated sessions this year is by Kim Leow, a Malaysian artist at Pixar Animation Studios, who will deliver a talk titled “Animation from the Inside Out.” With over 15 years of experience in animation, Kim has worked on notable films such as The Lego Movie 2, Hotel Transylvania 4, Over the Moon, Spirit Untamed, Wish Dragon, The Addams Family, and Inside Out 2. This session is set to offer invaluable insights into the intricacies of animation from a world-renowned studio.

Another key speaker is Cyber Group France chairman & CEO Dominique Bourse who will talk about “Navigating the Stormy Seas of the Global Animation Industry: Charting a Course Toward Success!”. Due to the significant disruption since the pandemic leading to the massive process of creative destructions, Dominique shares his analysis in the aim to encourage creative and agile players to become future leaders in the next phase of the animation industry.

The conference will also cover other critical topics such as licensing and merchandising, co-production, the evolution of character animation with AI, and a special focus on the Japanese anime industry.

Exhibitors at MYDCF Biz Day 2024 include top animation companies from Malaysia, including, Lil Critter, Fly Studio, Ed Online, Tin Town Studio, and Metal Brain to name a few. A highlight will be the showcase of Okolele, an animation by Metal Brain that garners four billion views with 20 million views monthly. The upcoming Okolele game, set to launch soon, is eagerly anticipated on both Google Play and iOS Playstore.

Complementing Kre8tif! are Immerse KL and Level UP KL, two initiatives that highlight Malaysia’s growing gaming and immersive content ecosystems. Immerse KL is dedicated to the future of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR), fostering innovation and creativity within these advanced fields.

Meanwhile, Level Up KL serves as a gateway for game developers, both local and international, to
tap into the lucrative Southeast Asian market. The event promotes growth, collaboration, and investment, cementing Malaysia’s role as a regional hub for game development and digital content.

Beyond the conference and exhibitions, MDEC in collaboration with GSC International Screen, will celebrate the Malaysia Animation Film Festival (MAFF) on 4 October 2024 at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), Mid Valley Megamall Kuala Lumpur, potentially graced by Minister of Digital his excellency Gobind Singh Deo. This year’s screening will feature award-winning animated short films from Malaysian creators.
