The year 2015 is a power packed year for movies with a huge slate of blockbuster films lined up almost every month. While action, thriller and fantasy genres are the most demanding for adding visual effects to enhance the look of the film, other run of the mill films are also resorting to VFX as a cost cutting measure.
While each month of 2015 is packed with movies, we bring to you a list of movies that are expected this month.
Chappie
The movie has just released on 6 March and is not getting rave reviews. Directed by Neil Blomkamp, the movie is about a time in the future when crime is patrolled by a mechanised police force and when a droid Chappie is stolen and given new set of programming, it becomes the first robot able to think and feel for himself.
The VFX has been executed by Image Engine, Ollin Studio and The Embassy with Chris Harvey, Charlie Iturriaga and Michael Stewart as the supervisors from the respective companies. The trailer shows a lot of blasts, explosions and extensions where VFX has been used.
Cinderella
The classic fable of a girl and her three stepsisters and stepmother is set to be retold again to woo the audiences. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, Cinderella, the romantic fantasy feature film, is not a replica of the real story but follows the track of the main outline of the original Cinderella.
Viewers are taken into a fantasy adventureland with the use of VFX by award winning company MPC with Patrick Ledda as the supervisor. Castles and magical spells will come alive this Friday when the movie releases in the US.
Zombeavers
Come 20 March and you will be treated to a new horror comedy movie Zombeavers which follows the story of a group of college kids who are staying at a riverside cabin and get attacked by a swarm of zombie beavers. Directed by Jordan Rubin, Zombeavers had a select release last year at the Tribeca film fest.
The horror parody has some VFX work by HOAX films with Rock Sanders as the supervisor and reports suggested that the beavers are not created via CGI but rather rendered as animatronic puppets.
Insurgent
The week after will see the release of Insurgent, directed by Robert Schwentke. The second film in The Divergent franchise is the follow up to last year’s Divergent. While the first installment saw Neil Burger as the director for the series, Robert has taken over the reins from him in this outing.
Leading lady Beatrice Prior must confront her inner demons and continue struggling against a powerful alliance that is threatening to tear her society. Set to release on 20 March, it has VFX from Double Negative (supervisor Ged Wright), Luma Pictures, Animal Logic (supervisor Paul Butterworth), Lola visual Effects and capital T (supervistor Jamie Hallett). The production VFX supervisor is James Madigan.
The Lobster
Releasing on 24 March, this comedy, romantic and sci-fi movie, talks about a time in the future when single people are forced to find a match mate within 45 days or else they will be transformed into animals and released into the woods. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, The Lobster stars Lea Seydoux, Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell.
The VFX work has been done by BUF, which has also worked on just released movies Jupiter Ascending and Kingsman: The Secret Service.
