The author and poet who’s been inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame, Margaret Atwood, will now be seen penning a story for a graphic novel by Dark Horse Comics. A Governor General’s awardee, Atwood will be working with artist Johnnie Christmas – who’s worked on Sheltered and Pisces comic series.
The graphic novel, Angel Catbird will be a three part series published in conjunction with Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives, an initiative led by Nature Canada. Talking about the characters, Atwood says, “I have concocted a superhero who is part cat, part bird. Due to some spilled genetic Super-Splicer, our hero got tangled up with both a cat and an owl; hence his fur and feathers, and his identity problems.”
Editor Daniel Chabon further describes the graphic novel, “Angel Catbird is a humorous, action-driven, pulp-inspired story. And the only other thing I can tell you at this early date is to expect a lot of cat puns.”
Atwood has previously worked on a comic strip Kanadian Kultchur Komix in alternative magazine This where she featured her first superheroic character, Survival woman, under the pseudonym “Bart Gerrard.”
Artist, Johnnie Christmas says, “It’s tremendously exciting to work with one of the great contemporary novelists. I can’t wait for readers to experience the world of Angel Catbird that we’re building. It’s got warmth, heart, humor, and lots of action.”
The Angel Catbird three volume series will be released in 2016.
