Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE), the licensing and merchandising division of Turner International India, has partnered with PepperScript Publishers to bring back its evergreen characters through new comic books.
The pre-order of the comic books has commenced and will be sold exclusively through the e-commerce platform Amazon for the year 2014. The Cartoon Network comic books will be based on their classic franchises and will be called ‘Remix’.
Turner International India MD South Asia Siddharth Jain said in a press statement: “Over the years, Cartoon Network has become synonymous with being the ultimate destination for the best cartoons. Our legacy of shows and characters are so diverse that it endears to kids and adults. By partnering with PepperScript to create comic books based on our classic franchises, we hope to reconnect with teens and adults who were avid consumers of our 90’s shows.”
PepperScript has been appointed as the sole licensee in India to design, publish and sell comics based on Cartoon Network’s highly popular global franchises including Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, Courage the Cowardly Dog and Adventure Time.
PepperScript director Sanchit Goel said: “PepperScript Comics is proud to associate with Cartoon Network Enterprises to bring back evergreen cartoons and create nostalgia for that genre of Indian audience who once used to love these characters. Though the comic industry in India is relatively less explored as compared to that in the West, we plan to build that culture in India and hence, we chose to sell through Amazon.in so that everyone can easily enjoy this experience.”
Amazon India director category management Samir Kumar added: “We are excited to be the partner of choice for PepperScript and be the first to offer our customers an opportunity to experience the Cartoon Network comic books. Children’s books and books for young adults are some of the most popular books categories on Amazon.in.”
