‘Captain Marvel’ is the most anticipated movie of 2019, according to IMDb rankings

As 2018 draws to a close, we look forward to another roller-coaster of an year at the movies with several big-budget productions lined-up throughout the 2019 calendar.

However, as per the page views and the movie meter rankings on the rating’s website IMDb, Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel has emerged to be the most anticipated movie of the year. The Brie Larson-starrer is an origin story on the Marvel superhero caught between the inter-galactic war raging between alien races Kree and Skrull, and as MCU gaffer Kevin Feige once said, “the strongest hero ever introduced”.

Both the trailers so far have served to whip up a storm and also garnered 76 million views combined on YouTube.

This is particularly perplexing considering Captain Marvel would be followed hot on its coat-tails by Avengers: Endgame, arguably MCU’s biggest release of phase one, yet has been ranked second in the list of anticipated movies. It marks the end of a 11-year long journey with some of the original Avengers heavily touted to bite the dust.

Marvel’s third release of 2019, Spider-Man: Far From Home, didn’t even make the cut into top 10 despite being the first movie to be set in the post-Endgame universe.

Twentieth Century Fox’s Dark Phoenix, the next installment in the famed X-Men universe, is scheduled to hit theatres in July and features well within the top 10 list of anticipated releases while Disney’s Aladdin too makes the cut. However, there was no place for DC’s Shazam, Toy Story 4 or even Star Wars: Episode IX.

Here’s the list of most anticipated movies of 2019 in full:
