The squared circle was redefined altogether when mixed martial arts (more commonly known as MMA) came into being and has now managed to garner a huge following for the ‘reality’ that it brings to the table, which sports like WWE have always been criticized for over the years.
The cinematic universe has for long dealt with various fight sports on the big screen, be it boxing, martial arts, karate, kung-fu or wrestling; but the one fight sport that is now being tapped into off late has been MMA and the most recognized feature recently has been the 2011 release Warrior. It received critical acclaim, with many praising the acting, fight scenes, cinematography and music.
Lionsgate, the global distributor for the film, struck a deal with Indian production giant Endemol India to acquire the Indian rights for the movie, with Dharma Productions and Fox Star Studios India involved in the production of the film.
The trailer of the much hyped remake of Warrior called Brothers hit the internet today and it doesn’t fail to disappoint on any front. While Sony Six must be credited for educating the Indian Diaspora on a globally recognized fight sport like MMA, this remake will only create a lot more awareness and viewership for the Ultimate Fighting Championship that is exclusively telecast on the sports network of Multi Screen Media.
The story (as understood by the trailer) speaks of how two brothers are disjointed because of their love-hatred for their father, who is a chronic alcoholic and used to domestically abuse their mother. After that it’s all about how Karan Malhotra deals with the story and treats the original that won a lot of accolades; the film stars Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra in lead roles, also starring Jacqueline Fernandez, Jackie Shroff, Shefali Shah and Ashutosh Rana.
There has been quite a lot of VFX used for generating crowds and also some difficult action sequences that have been executed by Prime Focus, which is also looking after the DI for this feature.

The interesting piece of news is that Yash Raj Films’ much anticipated ‘FAN’ made way for ‘Brothers’ to release on 14 August this year because the post-production and the VFX that is being taken care by Redchillies.vfx is yet to commence on the project.
AnimationXpress.com had earlier broken the news that ‘FAN’ will now only release in 2016, but the trailer of the feature is currently being readied under the microscopic supervision of director Maneesh Sharma, Aditya Chopra and Shahrukh Khan and could see the light of day with the release of this film on 14 August itself, although we might just get to see the trailer earlier with Bajrangi Bhaijaan releasing on 17 July itself.
