The number of broadband subscribers has gone up to 74.31 million at the end of August 2014 from 70.81 million at the end of July, registering a monthly growth rate of 4.95 per cent.
Wired subscribers grew 0.06 per cent to 15.05 million subscribers. Mobile devices users (phones and dongles) increased 6.29 per cent to 58.82 million. Mobile devices users (phones and dongles) grew 2.75 per cent to 0.44 million.
As on 31 August, the top five wired broadband service providers were BSNL (9.97 million), Bharti Airtel (1.39 million), MTNL (1.13 million), YOU Broadband (0.41 million) and Beam Telecom (0.40 million).
Top five service providers constituted 85.94 per cent market share of total broadband subscribers at the end of August. These service providers were BSNL (18.32 million), Bharti Airtel (16.53 million), Vodafone (12.52 million), Idea Cellular (9.86 million) and Reliance Communications Group (6.64 million).
Wireless subscribers with less than 1 MB data usage in a month have not been considered as internet/broadband subscribers by Reliance Communication Group and Idea Cellular.
As on 31 August, the top five wireless broadband service providers were Bharti Airtel (15.14 million), Vodafone (12.51 million), Idea Cellular (9.85 million), BSNL (8.35 million) and Reliance Communications Group (6.53 million).
