Aladdin dons red vest and Genie is played by Will Smith in the iconic blue hues

The new trailer of Aladdin released during the Grammys was predicated with the genie swirling out of the lamp marking the first-ever glimpse of Will Smith taking on the role of the garrulous wish-granting Jinn.

A thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of Disney’s animated classic, “Aladdin” is the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin, the courageous and self-determined Princess Jasmine and the Genie who may be the key to their future.

This is one of Disney’s most anticipated live-action remakes of the much-loved original animated series from the 90’s age. Another live-action CGI movie that fans have been waiting for with bated breath is The Lion King.

The teaser opens with a wide-angle shot of a moonlit desert, and we see people riding on camels traversing across it. The trademark Arabian Nights music plays in the background. Marwen Kenzari’s villainous Jafar appears and almost hoodwinks Aladdin to hand over the lamp.

Then the final scene shows him rubbing the lamp and the Genie escapes in the form of a whirling smoke apparition saying, “You really don’t know who I am?” he asks Aladdin. “Genies, wishes, lamps — none of that ringing a bell?”

The movie features Mena Massoud as Aladdin and Naomi Scott as Jasmine. Whether the movie will be able to live up to the buzz around the Aladin Franchise especially the much-adored character of Genie played by late veteran actor Rowan Williams who had set a benchmark for the iconic role.

The movie is scheduled for release on 24 May 2019.
