Bollywood actors Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif have launched ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’, the official mobile game of the upcoming Bollywood action-thriller ‘Dhoom:3’.
In the game, players play as the movie’s central character (played by Aamir Khan) races his superbike through the streets of Chicago while evading the chasing police (played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra). The game is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, and BlackBerry 10 platforms as well as on Nokia feature phones.
At the launch event held at YRF studios in Mumbai, Aamir Khan was the first person to play the game. His gameplay was projected live on a large screen for the audience to watch. Even though Aamir is known not to be a gamer, yet he did go on to prove that he possesses some quick reflexes. He instinctively took to the game’s tilt controls and raced his own virtual avatar through the obstacle-filled roadway. In the end Aamir achieved a score of 9499, a challenging target for any player to beat.
Next, it was Katrina’s turn. She took some time to get the hang of the bike, but soon she surprised everyone with an eruption of agility. She glided her bike through the traffic and ended her run with a competitive score of 4911.
After their gaming session, Aamir and Katrina both appreciated the game. Aamir revealed that while he was not involved in the development of the game, he is pleased to personally experience that the final outcome matches the level of quality he would like to be associated with. Katrina said that she enjoyed playing the game and now looks forward to downloading it on her phone to play more.
Gamers around the world seem to agree with Aamir and Katrina. ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’ had premiered exclusively on the Windows Phone Store on 25th October, and subsequently on Nokia (Ovi) Store. The game had clocked over a million downloads in just 20 days of the limited release. It is now one of the fastest ‘made in India’ games to hit the 10-lac figure. Currently the game is pegged at 1.7 million downloads, with an average 4.5/5 user rating. And now with Aamir and Katrina opening the racetrack for gamers on all other platforms, including iOS and Android, the game’s virality is only bound to increase.
“By the time the Dhoom:3 movie releases on 20 December, we are hopeful to cross the 1 crore downloads mark,” said Rohith Bhat, CEO of 99Games Online, the game’s developer. “We took 6 months to complete the game, with 18 people working on it. We take pride in the fact that the game has been completely made in India, from ideation to execution.”
Sharing exclusively with AnimationXpress.com, Rohith elaborates more on the game by saying “It’s very easy to play the game but difficult to master it, we’ve made sure to make the game addictive so that the user keeps on playing it end number of times to master the skills”!
“It was jointly decided by YRF and us to develop a racing game. The prime challenge was to build the game in four months time as the initial two months were spent on conceptualizing the game play. The game is 32 levels and free on all platforms. Also, we have a multi game deal planned with YRF.” Adds further
With ‘Dhoom:3 The Game’ rapidly amassing positive reviews from users and critics alike, it has established itself as the new benchmark of success for all future Bollywood-based mobile games.
