Fun with Chess Gaming App by inventVALLEY

No Doubt, Chess is always fun! We all must have played it at least once and if you haven’t played it then inventVALLEY brings this experience straight to your iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android devices as well as on FaceBook with Fun with Chess App. The game has made it to the list of top 100 gaming apps.

Created within a span of 4 months, this single and two player app is targeted to the kids and family auds and promises to boost strategic skills of the game player.

inventVALLEY was kick started last year by Omprakash Sonie.  He believes in creating games to bridge the gap between parents and kids that has been widened due to the increase of social networking. With team strength of 15 artists, the studio, till date, has created concept designs for two more games and Fun with Chess is their first make.

Speaking to AnimationXpress.com’s Zeenia Boatwala about inventVALLEY, Omprakash Sonie, Co-Founder of inventVALLEY, says, “In today’s time, most of the kids are techno savvy and have access to mobile devices and computers, whereas it’s vice versa in the case of their parents. At inventVALLEY, we make mobile games which parents and kids can play together and can spend quality time.”

“The decision of choosing Chess was made to bring people of all ages and intelligence together and make them feel equal as well as comfortable while playing.”

The game play of Fun with Chess is composed with 2 levels and boasts of being more supportive rather than competitive.

Sharing more on how the game play works, Om highlights, “We wanted the players to be equal and not able to beat other player just because one of them is intelligent. Hence, we added the element of Luck. You roll the dice and you get numbers from 1 to 5 or *. The player can move the piece based on the number the player gets on the dice. Hence, if the dice shows number 1, the Queen can move only one square.”

Moving ahead in the game, the players can decide to stop the game anytime and hence the team has introduced the concept of points for each piece in which when you capture a piece you are awarded with a certain number of points.

Keeping the emotions of players in mind, the team wanted the players to not feel hurt if their pieces are captured and so brought in the concept of re-birth.

Om informs, “If the piece is not in its home square, and is captured, it will automatically get a new life. By instilling this aspect, we have given players a comfort level in the game play.”

A team of 3 artists have worked on this app and also injected an interactive tutorial in this game. 2D animation medium has been chosen to build the game and Unity game engine has been roped in to create the game.

Asserting on the decision of using Unity software, Om, says, “We wanted to have design, logic and source code at one place for all platforms.”

Om feels that releasing this game on iPad makes good sense as players can place their iPad’s on table and play the game in face to face mode, which in turn gives out the feeling of playing a real chess game.

The choice of look and feel for this game was a tough nut to crack for the team.
Adds more, “Each game player have their own choices of arts and color combinations. As we wanted the players to feel relaxed while playing, we added a relaxing golf ground; sky was used as board and pieces were given a comic world look.”

At present, inventVALLEY is working on two more games with one for LittleBabyworld.com. To play Fun with Chess, you can follow the links below:
