Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu is all set to lead the English-language voice cast of Bright: Samurai Soul, an anime film which will premiere on Netflix this October. Netflix dropped the first trailer for director Kyohei Ishiguro’s anime spinoff.
Yuki Nomura, Daisuke Hirakawa, and Shion Wakayama will be starring in the Japanese-language version of the film. Along with Liu, Fred Mancuso and Yuzu Harada also voiced key roles for the English dub.
Bright: Samurai Soul is based on David Ayer’s 2017 Netflix live action film Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton, will explore a new setting, along with a new time period set in Japan between the end of the shogunate and Meiji era, the film will feature a one-eyed, wandering samurai named Izo (Liu) and an orc named Raiden (Mancuso), as they work to bring a young elf girl (Harada) and the wand she carries to the land of the elves in the north.
Directed by Kyohei Ishiguro, Michiko Yokote penned the script for the film. Atsushi Yamagata handled character design, with ARECT overseeing animation production.
Last year, Netflix announced its plans to produce more anime content after observing an exceptional rise in anime streaming on the platform. Bright: Samurai Soul is just the latest addition to a growing list of anime titles on Netflix.
The anime is all set premiere on 12 October only on Netflix.
