Leading Indian studio “Pixion” (a 100% subsidiary of Century Communications Ltd.) is in a major expansion spree and has shared with AnimationXpress.com that it is setting up a Green Field facility at Chennai in addition to its existing facilities at Delhi and Mumbai.

The studio has acquired a staggering 50,000 sq feet of prime space in an up market destination in Chennai and once fully operational, the facility will have the capacity to house more than 1000 artists. The Chennai facility will be capable of handling local animation projects including Pre Production and IPR, R&D and testing facility for Media and will also handle international outsourced animation work (from concept, pre production, and production to Post Production).

Up North, Pixion shared that it is establishing the first state of the art Animation/VFX studio in Noida, with a capacity of over 75 seats. Besides production and post production for animation, the facility will also have shooting facilities involving motion capture, motion control, etc.

“We are a multi-location facility and want to work with the best of talent from all across the country” shared Pixion CEO Naresh Malik. “Put together Pixionâ€?s facilities in Mumbai, Chennai, and Delhi will have a total capacity for 1500 artists but the intent is not to be known just as a facility with X number of seats, but as a facility that addresses all the needs of the industry that it services”

On being asked behind the choice of locations for setting up additional facilities, Malik replied, “Chennai has a significant talent pool and there is immense opportunity in grooming and working with that talent. The facility is going to work on all kind of CGI including entertainment based as well as for application in other sectors such as medical, defense, healthcare and gaming”

“We are going to strive to be a centre of creativity and innovation and will have a dedicated Research & Development Center in the Chennai facility that will work closely with Technology players. We eventually want to play a key role in product development”

Talking about the Noida facility, Malik shared, “We always believe that talent is not limited to any specific area of the country and there is a lot of good talent that wants to move back to their city and still not feel that they have cut themselves off from the industry. By having multi location facilities across the country and a business hub in Mumbai we at Pixion want to maintain a strategic edge”

Both the Chennai and Noida facilities are planned to be inaugurated by Diwali this year.

“While we will be large in terms of our capacity, we are not just into the numbers game and our recruitment process is going to be driven by quality and commitment” concluded Deepak Deshpande (SR VP & Head HR – Century Communications Ltd).
