Hanuman to be available on HD VMD

India’s first animated blockbuster Hanuman which set cash registers ringing a year and half ago keeps making it to the news.

The latest news on Hanuman is that it is now going to be available on the HD VMD format courtesy a deal between Delhi based Eagle Entertainment and US based New Medium Enterprises (NME)

As per the deal, Eagle Entertainment which has the home entertainment rights to Hanuman shall be publishing a range of its titles in the HD VMD format which has been developed by NME.

The HD VMD (Versatile Multilayer Disc) is NME’s proprietary High Definition disc format based upon established red laser technology. The company is launching its products in Mumbai in June 2007 and will be offering a HD VMD bundle box set to include a unique HD player plus 10 top selling movie titles at a competitive price of $349 to be available from June 2007.

“It’s a new format and we are experimenting with it, it is going to excellent high definition picture quality at very competitive (relative) price points. I hope that India will react very well to this format” shared Eagle Entertainment’s Sumit Suneja.

NME Asian division head Uti Thakkar commented “This is a timely and exciting partnership considering we are launching our products in Mumbai in the summer of this year. The Indian community already demonstrates that they are gadget and technology savvy and we anticipate large interest in our products in terms of our competitive retail price and unique technology”

Eagle has shared that its titles in the HD VMD format would be priced at Rs 799
