Digicon 6+2 invites entries, to fly winner to Tokyo

nullHere’s a chance for creators of digital & animated shorts, to showcase their work and talent on an international platform as well as win a trip to Tokyo!

Currently in its 7th edition, Digicon 6+2, organised by Japan’s TBS (Tokyo Broadcasting System), is inviting entries from across the world, including India.

The local winner from each country (in which the competition is being represented) will be invited at the cost of TBS to compete and participate at the main ceremony of Digicon 6 +2, which is scheduled to be held in Tokyo on July 22, 2006.

Animation ‘xpress is the Official Territorial Supporter (for India) for the Digicon 6+2 Awards and shall be the contact centre for collecting Indian entries and promoting and sharing information about the Awards. Click here to know how you can participate in Digicon 6+2 in three simple steps.

The festival cum competition invites digital content creators, both professional and amateur, to enter their original work with the aim of fostering cultural exchange within the Asian Community and provide opportunity for artists in different countries to know each other and help in future international collaborations.

Speaking to Animation ‘xpress, Mr. Kasahara TBS VP for Digicon 6+2 project remarked,”This is the 7th edition of the Digicon 6+2 Award. This year, we have extended participation for Asian countries including India. I hope that this will not only be taken as a competition but also as an oppurtunity for people participating in this event to strengthen mutual relations and to contribute to the growth of the Asian content market. We will try our best to become a hub for the Asian content Market”

India is a country with a long history of film making and also recently known as an excellent IT country. I look forward for a creative high quality work that is a mixture of your long history of film exeprience andsome cutting edge techonology. The outcome of which should be unique creative high quality content” he added.

“We are hoping that Digicon 6+2 could contribute to the growth of Digital Content in India. In any case Indian Content needs to be introduced in the Japanese market which is something we can do. Content created in India till nmow doesn’t have much wide exposure in India. I hope Digicon 6+2 will contribute to giving Indian content some good exposure in the Japanese market” he further added.

“This contest invites digital content creators, both professional and amateur, to enter their original work. All valid entries will be judged fairly based on the judgment criteria, and exceptional entries will be awarded prizes. We hope to build a good relationship with the award winners to support his/her later creative activity in various ways, including production and release” remarked TBS’ Takafumi Yuki.

“Also by having a international particiation, we hope to have a cultural exchange as a member of the Asian Community. We hope this Digicon 6+2 Award will be the opportunity for artists in different countries to know each other and help in future international collaborations” he concluded.

Three simple steps to participate in Digicon 6+2 (Participation is free)

1. Download & fill registration form

2. Send across (by courier or in person) your short film (has to be less than 15 minutes duration) along with the form to Animation ‘xpress at the following address.

The following materials must be submitted
– Completely filled Application Form

-Mini DV or DVD (NTSC or PAL) containing the short film

-CD-ROM or DVD containing a captured still image (minimum size: 720 x 480 pixels) of a scene that represents the Work. (.BMP., JPG., PICT.or TIFF) The extension must be indicated in the title of such image data.

Each submission also requires the following details
(i) Title of the Work
(ii) Applicant’s name
(iii) Duration of the Work

3. Call up Animation ‘xpress to confirm reciept of your film & submission form.

Prizes, Rules and Submission guidelines
(these are applicable to Indian Resident contestants only)

Kinds of films that will be accepted
All types of digital content films are accepted. Each film can be no longer than 15 minutes.

These could be
-Computer graphic animation (2D/3D)
-Live-action films shot/edited by digital movie equipment
-3D-rendered films (Includes stop-motion and clay animation)

Eligibility
-All Indian residents are eligible to enter, regardless of age, sex, or citizenship

-Both professionals and amateurs are eligible for entry

-Applicants must own the copyright of the film submitted

-Music & Sound used in the film must have been created by the applicant, or be otherwise free from copyright

-More than one entry per applicant is accepted

Prizes for the local competition in India

First Prize (1 work)
20,000 Indian Rupees, + Invitation to the main Ceremony of Digicon Award 6 +2 held in Tokyo JAPAN on July 22, 2006

Second Prize (1 work) : 10,000 Indian Rupees, and certificate

Third Pr ize (1 work) : 5,000 Indian Rupees, and certificate

Honorable Mention (1 work) : 2,000 Indian Rupees and certificate

Prize for Effort (10 works) : certificate (no monetary prize)

Judging Criteria
Films will be judged based on the following five criteria:

– Creativity
– Expressiveness
– Design and artistic quality
– Quality of the picture
– Effective use of music and sound

Judging Procedures
The judging committee, set up by the secretariat from Digicon 6+2, will judge the film fairly. The judging committee, the sponsor, and the secretariat will not respond to individual inquiries regarding judgment criteria and the contest results.
