Is Wesley Snipes returning to the Blade series for Marvel?

Marvel Studios may today be perhaps sitting on a stack of money-churning properties giving us massive superhero tent-poles like Iron Man, Captain America, The Avengers or even the latest entrant Ant Man. However Marvel hadn’t tasted success back in the early 1990s and as a matter of fact comic-rival DC Comics did have an upper hand then at the silver-screen reigning with its Batman and Superman movies.

Marvel had been heading for a dead-end each time it rolled out a movie be it a Captain America (1990), The Punisher (1989), Howard the Duck (1986) or even The Fantastic Four (1994). The only property that did work out well was Marvel’s vampire hunter, Blade starring Wesley Snipes as Marvel’s underdog superhero. Grossing over $131 million, Blade (1998) with its sleek action-sequences and dark story-telling won over the massed and spun out two more installments spelling success for Marvel. However with the visionary maneuvering from Marvel President Kevin Feige, Marvel struck gold with its lead characters, The Avengers and since then Marvel has been rerouting and breathing life into most of its comic properties.

In a recent interview, the 53 year-old Wesley Snipes stirred the silent waters surrounding his iconic vampire-hunter role in Marvel. On being asked about a possible Blade 4, Snipes didn’t shy away in revealing that he was already in talks with Marvel about reprising his role.

“[Blade 4] is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air,” stated Snipes.

Marvel won back the rights of Blade way back in 2013 from Lionsgate and since then rumors have been around of Wesley returning as the vampire hunter Eric Brooks a.k.a Blade.

Snipes also threw us another bone commenting that, “I’ve (Snipes) always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and I’d be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don’t to a Blade 4 or something else with Marvel, we’ll do something else.”

Wesley Snipes was last seen as part of Marvel’s universe in Blade Trinity in 2004. The character was revived in a 2006 TV series, Blade: The Series too with Sticky Fingaz however that failed to stir the crowd as Wesley did.
