Labyrinth adding Zombie effects to ‘Rock The Shaadi’

Mumbai based Labyrinth Cinematic Solutions is delivering complete VFX for Balaji Telefilms and iRock Media’s upcoming feature ‘Rock The Shaadi’. Starring Abhay Deol and Genelia D’Souza ‘Rock The Shaadi’ is a Zombie film set in a Punjabi wedding.

Talking to AnimationXpress.com Labyrinth Cinematic Solutions Co Founder, CEO Siddharth Jayakar shares, “There is a lot of blood, gore, gun shots, shooting and prosthetics in the film which makes it very CG intensive. In the film, one Zombie infects the wedding and slowly but surely everyone starts getting infected.”

Citing that the scope of VFX and CG work in the film was big Siddharth adds, “There are scenes where a hand is torn off, then there is a zombie attack with one zombie girl ripping off her sister’s head, and the entire scene in the end has a big zombie army descending on the wedding calling for a lot of zombie duplication.” A three year old studio, Labyrinth has worked on many popular international TV Series including popular Zombie series ‘Walking Dead’ created by Frank Darabont (Director of Shawshank Redemption) and hence had some experience in this area.

The film has been majorly shot in Rajasthan with the Labyrinth team on the sets. A prosthetics expert who has previously worked on ‘Shaun of the Dead’ had specially come down for the film.

Labyrinth has a business partnership with Los Angeles headquartered Stargate Studios which started with its work for the pilot of a series called ‘Outsourced’. Stargate approached Labyrinth as before establishing Labyrinth, Siddharth had previously worked with Stargate for 6.5 years in the US. Although ‘Outsourced’ didn’t get greenlit during the production of the pilot Stargate and Labyrinth established a good working pipeline. This enables Stargate to send all kinds of work to Labyrinth like shots, clean ups, model painting, texturing, unwrapping as well as more technical work.

Shauharat Mehta, Director, Labyrinth, further adds, “We are also working on a film with Stargate which has been written inhouse by the President of Stargate and his business partner. It is pretty much shot in India, Sri Lanka and Thailand and is a feature documentary for WWF on elephant wildlife. Titled as ‘Mahuth’ the film is about a girl who becomes India’s first female Mahuth (Caretaker of a elephant) and gives message of preserving wild and saving the planet. We will be handling the entire production of the film along with the CG and VFX.”

Along with VFX for films and international TV series, Labyrinth works extensively TVCs and has recently delivered the Mahindra Xylo spot featuring Atul Kasbekar. The studio currently has a team size of 38 but is planning to double up and move to a new studio soon owing to the requirements of its upcoming projects.
