Ibrahim-Al-Nasser, a gaming enthusiast from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has created the Guinness World record for connecting most gaming consoles to a single TV.
Nasser is well-versed when it comes to making connections between his TV and gaming consoles. His set up even involves an excel spreadsheet that he can refer to when he wants to play a particular console. The sheet tells him which switcher he needs to turn on in order to display that console on the TV.
He told Guinness World Records (GWR), “I have so many video game consoles. After a while I noticed that I had a big stack of gaming consoles that I couldn’t play. The TV ports are limited and if I wanted to play I could either unplug the existing console or I could keep everything and add more switchers and more convertors. By adding more switchers, the idea came to my mind to connect all of the gaming consoles I have to the TV then contact GWR because this project is unique. It includes hundreds of video game consoles, all different to each other. All of the consoles require a special set up and cable management as well.”
Regarding cable management and the motive for this record, he explained, “A very important thing, if you notice here, the cables are almost hidden. I used all the tools available in the market in order to organise the cables. Also to have a set up that’s not only to play, it’s like a museum and that’s why this set up and this record took so much time from me. I’m so happy and proud that I’m officially a record holder.”
The gamer’s collection is hooked up with over 30 RCA switchers, more than 12 HDMI switchers, and connections. An RCA switcher is a device that allows the user to connect multiple audio sources to a single output and vice versa. While an HDMI switcher is a device that allows the user to connect multiple HD audio and video signal sources to a display or TV.
His wide collections of consoles includes everything from a Magnavox Odyssey, the first ever gaming console released in 1972, up to the PlayStation 5 Slim, released in late 2023. His collection includes Xbox 360, Nintendo Switch, Wii U, Sega Genesis, and rare consoles like the Super A’Can.
Other than traditional consoles his collection also includes plug and play games, HDMI game sticks, android games and more.
He also stated to GWR that the Sega Genesis is his “number one” favourite console from his wide collection.
Sega Genesis is a 16-bit console which was initially called the Mega Drive when it launched in Japan in 1988. It launched in North America as Sega Genesis a year later. The console has well known games Sonic the Hedgehog, Streets of Rage and Disney’s Aladdin among others. The console received support till 1997 with NHL 98 being the last game released for it.
GWR is an annual British reference book that lists world records for human achievements and extremities of the natural world as well. Its records range from weightlifting to longest egg tossing distance and longest time spent playing Grand Theft Auto IV.
